Advent Pause Week Four- Love

Who doesn’t love a good gift? Think back over the gifts you've received in your life. What is the best gift you’ve ever received? Perhaps it was a beautiful doll or monster truck when you were a child, a new electronic or book, a trip, or a diamond ring? How did the gift make you feel? 

Gifts are a great way to show someone how much you love them. You spend time looking for something they would really like. You wrap it up and can’t wait to give it to them. 

“God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.” 1 John 4:9 CSB

The true gift of Christmas came to the dark and dreary world, over two thousand years ago. God gave us a gift that would change the world forever. He loved us so much that he “sent his son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:10) Can you imagine God’s anticipation as he prepared to send his son? God longed to redeem his people, to rescue us out of slavery and to adopt us as sons and daughters. What a gift of love! 

“When the time came to completion, God sent his son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4:4 CSB)

The best gift of all this Christmas is Jesus. May your hearts and homes be filled with the love of Christ this Advent as you look back at Christ’s first coming with gratitude and look forward to his second coming with hopeful expectation. 

“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only son.” John 3:16a CSB

Pray: for God to draw you closer to him, that you would experience his great love for you, and fill your heart with love for others

Worship: Adore by Chris Tomlin

Proclaim: How might God be inviting you to share his love with those around you today? Maybe that’s your kids, your spouse, your neighbor, the woman you meet at the grocery store, a friend or another loved one. Be open to where God might be prompting you to share the gift of his love this week.
