Go Eat Pie

We talk about " Go Eat Pie" in a few of our courses, and this is merely a way of saying, "take a break and go PLAY." Instead of scrolling Pinterest for 15 minutes, grab your markers or paints and jump into your Sketchbook.
Today we feature a loose floral watercolor painting, inspired by a painting class taught by artist Carolyn Gavin that I took over my lunch break. What a peaceful way to start the afternoon. If you need inspiration, I recommend you give her site a peek.
A few notes from this painting session:
Daniel Smith watercolors are my favorite, and our On-The-Go Watercolor Kit is a must-have for quick access to paints. I take this with me everywhere.
I enjoyed being loose and playful. I didn't like how the nib on my pen kept jamming. I'll be searching the thrift store for a new one.
Lesson learned. Treat your art supplies like food. They'll go bad if you don't use them. (I'm living proof. My ink was dried out.)
I didn't like how the vase was supposed to be clear, but it ended up looking muddy. I'm pleased that I covered it up with the deep blue. The inky dots were a surprise texture that I am happy with. I'll use that technique again.
At the end of the video, you will notice I am messing around with my eraser. I am using it to help me size where I want to place the text. It still feels off balance, but I am pleased to have the reminder of Psalm 107 on there. (Another tip is to write the scripture on trace paper and move it around the page to determine where you want it.)
As always, it is essential to complete your artwork (pushing through the ugly middle) and sign your name on it. Even if you don't love all of the elements you added, you've learned along the way, and that's worth sticking your name on it!
Make sure to share your art with us! Happy painting!
